BIO
East of Monroe performs a unique blend of original Americana music, featuring tight vocal harmonies and elegant instrumental arrangements that incorporate elements of country, blues, and swing. The band members, having performed with several national acts, come from a variety of musical backgrounds, which accounts for the many styles of music they play.
East of Monroe features the award-winning songwriting of Gary Alan Ferguson, the winner of the 2015 DCBU Hazel Dickens Songwriting Contest and a finalist in the 2014 Chris Austin Songwriting Contest at MerleFest. Gary's songs have also been selected twice for the International Bluegrass Music Association's songwriter showcase. East of Monroe's debut album, By the River's Edge, features these tunes alongside two diverse covers. The album received radio airplay all over the world, leading East of Monroe towards their first international tour: in April, the band performed to packed houses all over Ireland.
Since their founding in 2010, East of Monroe has also performed at many respected venues throughout the East Coast, including the American Roots Music Summer Concert Series at the Frontier Culture Museum, The Metropolitan Club in DC, Graves' Mountain Festival of Music, Frying Pan Park, Holy Cross Lutheran Church, the Tabard Inn, Gettysburg Bluegrass Festival, and Gypsy Sally's.
